Account & Data Deletion Instructions
In compliance with Google Play Store policies and Section 12 of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India), PlateSnap provides users with full autonomy to request permanent deletion of their account and all associated personal data.
How to Request Account & Data Deletion
Follow these simple steps to submit your official deletion request to our administrative team:
Initiate Deletion via Email
Send an email directly to our administrator and Data Protection Officer at dummy@gmail.com.
Important: To verify ownership and safeguard your account against unauthorized requests, please send the request from the email address registered with your PlateSnap account.
Specify the Email Subject
Set your email subject line to:
Provide Required Account Details
Include the following details in your message body:
- Registered Email Address: The email ID linked to your PlateSnap account.
- Full Name or Username: Your display name or user profile name in the app.
- Scope of Deletion: State whether you want complete account deletion (including all food photos and scan history) or specific data erased.
- Reason (Optional): Any feedback you'd like to share regarding why you are deleting your account.
Verification & Confirmation
Our administrator will review your request and send an acknowledgement within 48 hours. If additional verification is needed, you may be asked to reply to a security confirmation code.
Permanent Erasure
Once verified, all your account records, credentials, profile information, and uploaded photos will be permanently deleted from our active databases and servers within 30 days.

What Data is Deleted vs. Retained
In accordance with Google Play Store Data Deletion guidelines and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, personal data is processed as follows upon request:
- User Account & Credentials: Email address, authentication tokens, and profile identifiers are Permanently Deleted within 30 days.
- Food Photos & Plate Scans: All photographs captured or uploaded for food scanning and nutrition evaluation are Permanently Deleted from all storage and CDNs within 30 days.
- Nutritional Records: Meal logs, scan annotations, and nutritional calculations are Permanently Deleted and disassociated within 30 days.
- Device & Session Logs: IP addresses, operating system telemetry, and diagnostic logs are Permanently Deleted from operational logs within 30 days.
- De-Identified Aggregate Metrics: Non-identifiable research metrics stripped of all personal identity factors are Retained as Anonymized under Section 8(7) of DPDPA 2023 for machine learning model training only.
Data Retention Period & Exceptions
Our standard data retention policy retains personal data for 1 year from your last interaction with the application. However, when an explicit deletion request is submitted:
- All personal data and user-generated media are erased within 30 days.
- System backups containing snapshot data are rotated and overwritten within a maximum window of 90 days.
- No personal data will be retained for longer than necessary or for any undisclosed purposes.
