Account & Data Deletion Instructions
In compliance with Google Play Store policies and Section 12 of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India), PlateSnap allows invited contributors to request permanent deletion of their account and all associated personal data.
How to Request Account & Data Deletion
Follow these simple steps to submit your official deletion request to our administrative team:
Initiate Deletion via Email
Send an email directly to our administrator and Grievance Contact at kamda627@gmail.com.
Important: To verify ownership and safeguard your account against unauthorized requests, please send the request from the email address registered with your PlateSnap account.
Specify the Subject
Set your email subject line to:
Provide Required Account Details
Include the following details in your message body:
- Registered Email Address: The email ID linked to your PlateSnap account.
- Full Name or Username: Your display name or user profile name in the app.
- Scope of Deletion: State whether you want complete account deletion (including all captured meal images) or specific data erased.
- Reason (Optional): Any feedback you'd like to share regarding why you are deleting your account.
Verification & Confirmation
Our administrator will review your request and send an acknowledgement within 48 hours. If additional verification is needed, we will contact you by email.
Permanent Erasure
Once verified, your account credentials, profile information, and account-linked copies of your captured meal images and image annotations will be removed from active systems and the food-image dataset within 30 days. Models already trained using those images or annotations will not be retrained.

What Data is Deleted vs. Retained
In accordance with Google Play Store Data Deletion guidelines and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, personal data is processed as follows upon request:
- Contributor Account & Credentials: Email address, authentication tokens, and profile identifiers are Permanently Deleted within 30 days.
- Captured Meal Images: Account-linked captured meal images are Removed from Active Systems and the Dataset within 30 days. Models already trained using them will not be retrained.
- Image Annotations (dish labels and portion weights entered by contributors): Account-linked image annotations are Removed from Active Systems and the Dataset within 30 days. Models already trained using them will not be retrained.
- Device & Session Logs: Device, operating system, app, network, session, and diagnostic logs are Deleted from Active Systems within 30 days. Backup snapshots may temporarily retain copies until they are rotated and overwritten within a maximum window of 90 days.
Data Retention Period & Exceptions
When an explicit deletion request is submitted:
- All account-linked personal data and contributor-generated media are erased within 30 days.
- System backups containing snapshot data may temporarily retain copies of deleted logs. These backups are rotated and overwritten within a maximum window of 90 days.
- De-identified meal images and annotations (stored under an internal contributor ID, not your email) may be retained for the duration of the food-image dataset project. They are removed from the dataset within 30 days of an erasure request, but models already trained using them are not retrained.
- No personal data will be retained for longer than necessary or for any undisclosed purposes.
